Elder Abuse
Not only are children the victims of neglect and abuse, the elderly are victims too. There are various types of neglect and abuse that elderly persons endure.
Interference with an Agreement to Marry
Depending upon the state, interfering with an agreement to marry may be a civil offense or a tort. However, the majority of states do not recognize a claim for interfering with an agreement to marry. Although most states recognize the claim of tortious interference with a business relation or with a general contract, states are more reluctant to permit a claim for liability with respect to a premarital setting.
Enforcement of Child Support
When a court enters an order of child support, it orders one party to pay a certain sum of money to another for the support of a child. The person who is ordered to pay is called the obligor. The person who received the payment is the obligee. The amount of child support that is payable is usually based on state law that takes into consideration the number of children for which an obligor is responsible and the amount of income the obligor earns from all sources.
Minors and Medical Treatment - Parental Consent
Generally, parental consent is required before a minor can receive medical treatment. Most states define a minor as a person under the age of 18. State laws make an exception to the parental consent requirement in emergency situations. Minors can receive emergency medical treatment without parental consent.
Child Support and the Military
Enforcement of child support with respect to active military personnel is different than that of enforcement of civilian child support. First and foremost, locating the military individual can be difficult.
